From Another Place

Within this book is a subplot .. conversations between two people who are trying to find their way .... the conversations are brief, humorous, sad, hopeful and hopeless .... and they are all short. I'd really like to know what members think of this sub plot (conversation) Can you figure out before it is revealed who is having the conversations?  Please leave feedback!

From Another Place

“I have a bad feeling!”
“About what?”
“Why are we here?”
“We live here.”
“Are you sure?”
“What is wrong with you? Of course I am sure.”
“I kind of think we don’t?”
“We don’t what; live here? You are getting crazy again.”
“OK then smarty if we live here what’s the name of this place?”
“It’s ... I mean its name is … Heck what difference does it make I just can’t think of it right now.”
“You know when stuff like this happens it means something worse is coming?”
“No it doesn’t we are just having a memory lapse.”
“I hope you are right, but look out at the gulf … I see something coming.”
“Oh crap!
“Yeah, right?”

Here is an excerpt from Satan's Loophole:

“I see you are watching the boy again Royle!”

“For an angel you are very observant… and yes Mildred that was sarcasm.”

“I wasn’t being judgmental; I was just stating a fact as a way of greeting you. I watch him too and it’s sad. No child should have had to endure the devastation he has faced.

“You’re right. Sorry I am a bit short-tempered right now. He has gone through so much and yet he will have to go through so much more before this is all over.”

“Do you think Lucifer will come back this time Royle? You could have knocked me over with a feather when the boy survived their first encounter; I wonder if he could survive a second one.”

“I don’t know Mildred. Lucifer is unpredictable. Usually he doesn’t waste his time returning to a place where he lost a battle but in his mind he won the battle for Devils Dump. When he finds out Josiah survived and knowing how much Josiah means to Father and the other angels; well I don’t think there will be anything that will keep him away. Of course that’s just an old angel’s opinion.”

“Oh Royle, we are all old but what is time and ‘old’ to us? What really bothers me is that we weren’t able to go with the others to help the people of Devils Dump last time; do you think Father will let us go this time?”

“Mildred what would two scribes do in a battle like that? I want to go, don’t get me wrong but what are we going to do? We have never been in a war, we have just written about them… Oh silly me I have been thinking the same thing. I want to ask Father if we can go too. Maybe Michael will teach us what we need to know.”

“Dimiel got to go the last time, and she is not a warrior. We could be helpers like Dimi was.”

“So my friend, you really want to face the dragon?”

“For Josiah, Royle I would face even worse… if there was a worse.”

The angel Mildred tilted her head and said, “I hear the battle trumpets Royle. The others are being called to prepare. We need to go now and seek permission if we want to go with them.”

“You know this time it is going to be so much worse than before. Lucifer will not stop until that poor town is totally destroyed.”

For the first time since the battle in Devils Dump took place Royle chuckled and said, “I guess Lucifer still hasn’t figured out that no matter how dirty he fights, God has some pretty good tricks up his sleeve… come on Millie let’s go armor up.”

“I think you are getting a little too familiar there my friend ... the name is Mildred to you.”

“Right Millie… race you to the trumpeters.”

What Royle chose not to remind Mildred; angels can die in these battles too.
Will the angels return to Devils Dump in time to save Josiah from a devastating personal attack or will they arrive too late to save him? Will he become the first casualty in Lucifer's new attack on Devils Dump?
